Thumbing through the Lancet

each time I hope to find

an article confirming

my regimen's designed

to further health and happiness,

with illness far behind.

I hope to find the study that

confirms what I suspect,

that camembert is good for me;

it has a sound effect,

that brie promotes immunity

and keeps disease in check

that eggnog feeds my red blood cells,

and butter makes me strong

that puddings banish dizzy spells,

with ale I can't go wrong.

Baked potatoes nourish me

and keep my hormones flowing

Doritos, chips and deep fried fish

ensure my skin stays glowing.

Biscuits, Triscuits, Peek Freans,

Nachos and souffle,

cheesy sauces, sour cream

keep heart disease at bay.

And so I flip through hopefully

to see if I can find

(ever optimistic)

sound eating redefined--

science will assert to that

which I am so inclined.

Susan Donim said "Very entertaining and quirky! I loved this, definitely my kind of poetry, fun and amusing. I enjoyed it so much I ended up reading it out aloud to an office of dieting women- it was very well received, and perhaps, I will have that cream cake with my cup of tea this morning!"

Jay Leffew said "They've already said a couple of bits of chocolate each day could be good for you, so we're getting there! This is really entertaining, thanks."

Adam West said "Wow - now I'm hungry - very neatly done - amusing prose which had a nice flow to it. As for 'evidence based medicine/scientific research' well, it is often not what it seems - the majority of it has not undergone thorough peer-review... nice writing, many thanks Adam"
