“Are you sure you’re ready to do this love?” Ian turned Milly towards him and looked into her sad, sad eyes.

“Yup, It’s been three weeks, I need to get it done.” Sylvie was gone, horribly, pointlessly gone. The funeral had been searing and Milly knew the empty space in her life would never be filled. Nobody else in the whole world had spent nights at Uni talking with her until the sun came up, nobody else had calmed her down when she had to do a recital in front of the Dean and nobody else knew how she had really felt about Martin.

They left the house and walked the half mile to Sylvie’s flat in silence, well not really Sylvie’s flat any more that was the whole point. Jay Leffew said "I don't like serials, so I'm relieved to see that yours remains complete in each story, and having read the third one before this, I am content to enjoy the on-going mystery, because (the main reason I dislike serials) if I should miss one, I know I wouldn't have lost any of the plot. Your writing has atmosphere, and how else do you get the feeling across, when the well-worn cliches have always succeeded so well? You know where you are with them..."

Diane Dickson Guest Editor replied saying "thank you for that Jon. I am sure that anyone who has the terrible misfortune to loose someone close will bear witness to the fact that well meaning friends do in fact say things such as : "It was the way he would have wanted it." "We should try and remember them alive and happy." etc. etc. I know this for fact and I do think that there are times when a cliche has a place in fiction if it is to distinguish between the ordinary everyday(ness) of a situation and the extraordinary events that may ensue. In my very clumsy way that is what I was trying to do in this story. Maybe I didn't quite succeed but that's okay I have no illusions about my writing skills."
