About this Short Story

Written by
Jay Leffew

I don't know why travel never grabbed me, as it seems to enthuse others. I never felt the desire to 'know' other cultures, to experience the sights and sounds for real. I remember there was a very different smell of spiciness to the air as I stepped off the 'plane in Morocco, yet I cannot feel that I might be considered lacking had I missed that experience. It was my mum who had the wanderlust, and, apart from Morocco, (which was purely for a tan, and to discover if I could make it on my own), all the places I've visited were with mum, or as a coach-driver.

In my mind I fly further than Tensing could roam; in my dreams I am cosmic'ly free,

'though my…

Almir Meljovikj said "Really enjoyed it, Jay. I particularly liked its feeling and sense of swiftness and the flow of language - felt like listening to your opinion on the matter (in this case obviously 'travel'), and yet there was profound poetic richness in it. Thank you and best of luck with it."

Jay Leffew replied saying "At least I tried, not only because my mum took us with her. Thanks for the feedback, Adam and Helen."

Adam West said "I like your anti-travel take, Jay - not that I am necessarily of the same mind, more that it seems quite radical in the context of a competition. I imagine this downbeat perception will strike a chord, as they say - bold writing, many thanks, Adam"
