Short Story: Development!

For months, the rumors had been gaining ground. Now, it was being reported on all the networks and was almost the only item in the print media. Some people were of course happy about it but many were astounded and hugely shocked by what they were seeing and reading.

On one hand, western governments had withdrawn aid because legislation to protect gay rights was denied the light of day. On the other, many African governments had stopped giving visas to any foreigner married to only one wife and singles were plain denied entry! Foreign embassies and missions had been shut down, some in protest while others in some sort of proactive reaction.

Bars in the large cities and towns that had been catering to gays on the sly were now openly doing so and attacks on such establishments had also increased. Some natives were now calling for total expulsion of all Caucasians; yes, including priests normally seen in the company of boys. As a statement, even some Christians were now marrying more than one wife, if only to piss off Canterbury and Rome.

Harsher laws had come up to fight the gay orientation and upon conviction, they were to die by firing squad in the nearest soccer pitch to the point of arrest/arraignment. Gays were also not standing idly by; heterosexuals were being attacked left and right. All single sex schools had been changed into mixed schools and students were encouraged to date as long as they hit eighteen. As a result, the population had shot up to fifty million only five years, an increase of almost fifty percent.

But the new development had many straight people worried and very bothered; and they were quick to blame the whites: All animals were behaving in the most unnatural manner imaginable. Those of the female gender were trying to mate with fellow females and the males were mounting males! As a result, all dead animals were not being replaced so the animal population kept going lower and lower. Dogs in the streets were mating and so were animals in the wild. This increased tourism trade but had the government scratching its head.

Then just when everyone was about to give up on the whole situation, a small obscure man from a remote village in Kigezi said he had had a vision; the Virgin Mary had appeared to him and told him what to do. So people started ferrying their animals to his homestead; a clump of small grass and mud and reed structures.

He would get water from a well behind his land, swirl it around in his mouth and spit on the animals. Some people started swearing that it was working, but scientists at most Universities called this bull. Still, thousands upon thousands flocked to the old man`s home, offering him presents and money and daughters.

The government knew this was a con but were powerless to stop it. The church also knew so they fought against it, to little success. The gays started attacking processions headed for the old man`s compound. And the news this morning is that the old man is dead, having been hit on the back of the head with a blunt instrument.
