The minute I closed the car door, I knew he’d ask.

‘So… Are you a student there, or…?’ he pretended to hesitate, as if trying to sound polite, but he was really interested and curious above all.

‘No,’ I replied briskly. I thought about not answering at all, but then my super-sized ego nudged me into, well, spilling the beans. ‘I teach there.’

‘Oh really? Oh… Wow… Why that’s… Awesome!’ he sort of half-cried out, turning at me, with his eyes bulging happily. ‘Wow!’

I smirked back, and turned to look out of the window, hoping he would eventually, just maybe, shut up.

‘That’s great, my boy. Great. You’ve always been a clever one – the cleverest in your fam!’ and then he burst into a loud laughter. I kept ignoring him.

Adam West said "This was well worth another go - I just read my comments from 3 months back, Almir, and don't think I have anything to add but glad to give this very good short a 'bump' - ATB - Adam"

Jay Leffew said "He's young and successful; he'll grow up a lot quicker after this, and become more likeable I'm sure. We have a tendency to judge people on the instant, but experience warns that you can't always trust first impressions. This was so well written, and thank you."

Diane Dickson Guest Editor said "It was a funny thing but I didn't like your MC right from the start. The ending was stark and a real wham on the head. Well formed for a short piece and food for thought. - thanks - Diane"

Almir Meljovikj replied saying "*laugh* I'm not sure if I like him myself really... The ego is unbearable... Thank you Diane once again for your kind words and for enjoying the read. Best regards and good luck."

Adam West said "A clever 'plot' that played with my emotions. I felt the irritation of your MC, Almir, turning to discomfit - done quite subtly, I thought . It's a journey that he is familiar with and yet for the reader we don't know where the story is leading and it ends suddenly leaving him, and us, with further discomfit. It reminded me of one of those 5 minute short films you sometimes see on TV - a simple idea, nicely executed - many thanks, Adam"

Almir Meljovikj replied saying "Thank you Adam for your kind words and for enjoying the story, I really very much appreciate it. To be quite honest, I just wanted to write something about the unpredictability of everyday life - about how we, as human beings, are prone to take so many things for granted without even knowing it, being that we get overwhelmed by ambition, self-centeredness and fame in a success-driven world. Once again, many thanks, and best of luck with everything. Cheers!"
