“What the fudge! You’re not ready! Stephie you’re not ready have you seen the time?”

“I can’t find it. I’ve looked everywhere I just can’t find it.”

“What. Look at the time, what are you doing! Come on, we’ve got to find a parking place and you don’t want to arrive all hot and bothered. Stephie what are you doing?”

“I can’t find it, my charm. I can’t find my lucky charm. I’ve looked all over the place. I had it last week and now it’s gone. I can’t go without it. Come on help me look. You know I can’t go without it. Shit, shit, shit.”

Patsy R Liles said "Oh, you are clever, Diane. I was on my knees looking under the bed for her..... how vividly your use of conversation painted her anxiety and his attempt to placate. Lovely ending! Lovely. Patsy Liles"

Jay Leffew said "Well, yes, I did appreciate it, but although it's one of the worst, there were a few others I was uncomfortable with. in keeping 'though they obviously were, things I've been known to mutter in private, but never for anyone else to hear... There's no doubt about it, they do work, I just learned to be more independent of mine, being an arrogant, self-sufficient type, who won't even fall back on ciggies or booze for courage, Dutch or otherwise. I had one though, in my teens. Sometimes you just have to have it, because you feel naked without, and so very alone... then you grow out of it! Yippeee! Great bit of observation, thanks."

Diane Dickson Guest Editor replied saying "Sorry about the wee swearies Jay but I think sometimes we have to be realistic. In real life I would use sausages or parsnips myself but it's not very convincing when trying to draw a believable character I don't think. Thanks so much for bearing with me and reading in spite of the vocabulary - I appreciate it. Diane"

Adam West Guest Editor said "Loved the dialogue (especially 'What the fudge?' - Jay will thank you for that no doubt, *WINKS*) - I would have preferred another ending, but then that's me - I have problem with Karma/Fate etc. - great little fable done at a pace - many thanks, Adam."

Diane Dickson Guest Editor replied saying "I totally agree with you Adam regarding too much reliance on good luck charms etc. I intended the piece to be light hearted but you are right it's not always the case especially I think with someone who has maybe low self esteem or lack of confidence. It is amazing though isn't it how many people do believe that a little piece of metal or plastic can influence the outcome of life events. as they say "Nowt as funny as folk"."

Adam West Guest Editor replied saying "I hear you, Diane, good luck charms etc. are fine, it's when a person comes to rely (as you have portrayed nicely with this character) on their talisman and actually believes against all logic that the charm itself has power, in effect, a say in their destiny - too many innocent types get caught up in this trap and find it tough when the true nature of life's randomness finally hits them - sorry, I know that is a bit deep, but there you go - writing should provide food for thought - ATB - Adam"

Diane Dickson Guest Editor replied saying "Thanks again Adam, a bit of luck here and there, who knows I don't actually have a rabbits foot but sometimes feel that if there's help out there I'll take it thanks so much :-) Thanks again for reading and taking the time to comment. - Diane"
