It was a Monday evening when the cracks began to show in the family solidarity at the next bed. Following a meeting, off the ward with the doctor, the family trooped into the ward in their numbers to visit their mother. Voices soon became raised when the husband of the eldest daughter told the eldest son that there was “...not enough room in their house as it was.” He suggested that the eldest son should “......clear out your spare room for Mother to live…

Patsy R Liles said "I had to read you, Meg, after your kind remarks about a story of mine. I didn't recall seeing one, so went searching. Glad I did. I shall eventually read them all. I like your 'voice' and the neat insertion of the match terms which was so fitting. Very entertaining, but thought provoking. Thanks for sharing. Patsy Liles"

Christine Human said "A micro-story, just the right platform for the repetitive match scoring. Made me smile and I even felt the rhythm and felt somewhat like the umpire. Thankyou"

Bill Peters said "This is marvelous. What, for me, started out as a fairly mundane topic suddenly turned into something else as you added the first score. And I didn't see the end coming. Very well done!"

Meg Malpass replied saying "Thank you Bill. It was a shortened version of a story I wrote a few years ago. Dissected it when the micro-story competition appeared. Glad you enjoyed it."

Diane Dickson Guest Editor said "This was very cleverly done and although it was a serious subject and could have been quite sad you presented it so well that it left one with a vicarious sense of victory. I hope the two old ladies ended up living a riotous life and spent any and all inheritance there might have been. - that'll show em!"

Meg Malpass replied saying "Thanks for reading Diane. It was a much-shortened version of a story I wrote years ago called "Hospital Visitors." Glad you enjoyed."

Jay Leffew said "Ha ha! Lovely stuff, especially the ace at the end if the argument, it smacked of desperation, and all for nothing; - why do families never seem to think to ask the only one who should have a say in all this? Good ending, thanks."
