I was a soldier come back from the dead,
What I saw on earth, gave no rest for my head.
So close to glory, eternity’s shore,
But back to my country, for one mission more.
I gave my life for this country that’s free,
When I was a young man, no dreams for me.
Others had families, made homes, a good wife,
But I was cut short in the prime of my life.
My mission was simple, to search, and to find,
If the cost of this freedom was still on their mind.
But saddened to think on those days set aside,
The soldiers at graveside alone do abide.
And there at the ballgame, some show no respect,
With star-spangled banner, they can’t sing it correct.
With glory, now burning, they think it’s their right,
While thousands of brave men lost lives in the fight.
I’ll travel to Heaven and give my report,
To the brave men and women, whose lives were cut short.
Not everyone carelessly, counts freedom’s cost,
With admiring respect, of the brave soldiers lost.
