About this Short Story

Written by
Jay Leffew

The poetry group wanted us to write on 'Occupations' or 'Hobbies' and I couldn't think of anything original, so delved into the idea of the criminally insane... It's pretty horrific, so beware...

I have a little hobby. Come, sit, I'll tell you what;

it's just a little pastime, I think you'll agree too.

Just, would you like a cuppa? It comes so piping hot,

we'll warm our hands upon the mug and gas about who's who.

.

That's right, just you get comfy; - I see you've drunk the lot!

Well, now I'll let you in on my secret, dark habit.

I lure in unsuspecting young people, to this spot;

this room has seen some beauties, I've skinned them like a rabbit.

.

You look a little puzzled. There really is no need.

I'll explain what is happening; the drug was in your cup!

you'll find it hard to move now; don't pay it any heed;

that's just to make it easy for me to truss you up.

.

Now, dear, I cannot hear you; - I know it's hard to speak,

so don't know why you're trying, - relax and let me work.

Ahmed-hamid Woody Bagala-alina said "Ah, the first gross read i have had from Jay and it leaves me feeling good (I`m not the only one with a dark imagination) and sad (very easy to be lured into this situation especially by kindly looking, trustworthy strangers)...when we were kids, they would tell us at home not to shelter from the rain under large trees, or inside the homes of strangers or little known neighbors if we couldn`t stay in school til it stopped raining...very good advice! Jay, this is great writing, though I was kinda left disoriented after the first two stanzas of this fabulous poetic prose! Bless!"

Bill Robertson said "Creepy! A good example how neccessity can be the mother of invention when it comes to writing. A very effective trip to the dark side :-)"

Bill Robertson replied saying "As I keep telling my wife - so long as this stuff is only happening in my imagination you've got nothing to worry about ;-)"

Adam West Guest Editor said "Wicked Jay - I think you would enjoy the Swedish film Let The Right One In (there is a US remake called Let Me In but I have not seen it) but anyway it does involve some victims being drugged and trussed up upside down and drained of blood. I am going to get the book. I think I will recall your devilish little ode to the psychopath when I read it - lovely stuff, many thanks, Adam"
