About this Short Story

Written by
Katy Hulme

A few weeks ago I visited Edinburgh for the first time and was absolutely enamoured by its castle emerging from the cliffs. This is a short poem about my infatuation.

Top Ten!
2nd Place!

I walk cobbled streets

You hide behind stone

But with each passing crossroad

I catch glimpse of your throne

As cliff becomes castle

Turrets touching the skies

All turn to your fortress

With passionate sighs

You observe from above

The tenderness of others

The embrace of a friend

Brushing lips of two lovers

But when friends have long gone

And love starts to wither

The distance between us

Brings a tremble, a shiver

For in heart and in soul

I belong in your towers

Perched upon rock face

Dreaming for hours

And though distance has grown

Between me and your grace

Please await my return

To your kingly embrace

Jay Leffew said "The sort of romance I can appreciate; it stirs the soul in awe at the remote grandeur and dark dominance. I quite understand. I've often felt it myself."

Adam West said "There is cross over here between the physical and the metaphor - it sort of flips back on itself - if that makes sense - tenderly passionate prose - many thanks, Adam"

Adam West replied saying "I guess it depends on how you define poetry? I write some what I laughingly term quasi-poetry - you, I suggest do quite a bit better - but you are right, sometimes 'poetry' is thing only medium that fits - best wishes, Adam"

Katy Hulme replied saying "Thank you for your comment and kind words Adam. Let's be honest, I'm no poet, but sometimes a poem is the only thing that will do."
