"What was That!?" Shiela jumped, "Martians!!!"
"Don't be silly!" Marsha snapped, but she looked worried. "I wonder why the dogs stopped barking?"
"Oooo... I'm scared!"
"I have to go and see, you coming?"
"Oooh nooo! It's dangerous!"
Shiela stuffed three fingers in her mouth and left them there as she watched her sister disappear down the garden after the dogs, then jumped again as she heard a muffled screech.
"S**t!"
"Are you all right, Marsha?"
"There's f*****g great hole in the path!"
"You haven't hurt yourself???"
"Hee, he, heeeee! Stoppit!!!"
"Marsha?"

The dogs started barking excitedly again at this point, and Shiela began to wonder. Her legs were still inclined to quiver, but curiosity was beginning to win, and she decided to root out the old torch they kept in the kitchen. It still worked and she was soon timidly making her way into the night.
"Hi Butterfly!" a male voice shouted in her ear, "Didn't scare ya with my bomb did I?"
She was grabbed around the waist from behind and lifted into a twirl which made her drop the torch. "Can we let the dogs out and have a party? " a second man shouted.
"I dropped the torch!"
"Never mind that! You'll soon get adjusted! We brought some beers!"
"What do you propose doing about this hole you made?" Marsha sounded less than severe.
"Oh, - you needed a new path anyway, so we're doing it for you tomor ... no, it's today now! - Happy Birthday Marsha!"
