Over the last month we’ve discussed on the forums the introduction of a word limit to Shortbread, one of the reasons for this being to speed up the process of getting stories through the editing queue and being published. We have subsequently made the decision that, from today onwards, there will be a maximum limit of 3,500 words for any story submitted to us. This will not affect the stories currently in the editing queue or on site.

As Shortbread is here to showcase short stories to a worldwide audience, we have also decided to remove the barrier of logging in or joining up in order to read. From now on, all stories can be read without the need to sign in. We hope this will make it easier for authors to publicise their work to an online audience. Membership to Shortbread will still be necessary for those who wish to download, submit, or listen to audio stories.
