| Life Story: | Pete Barrett’s none-too-spectacular writing career spans over thirty years beginning when he wrote and produced three musicals for schools, each featuring over two hundred children. He has written many plays some of which have been performed professionally. These include broad comedies such as The Complete Corruption of Carrington and The Revenge of the Mutant Cockle (available on httpcomedyplays.co.uk),satirical pieces like Guilty (a woman is tried for her failures as a mother, a wife and a female) and Jackals (A middle class family home is surrounded by the unemployed) and serious pieces like Day-Dreaming on the Motorway which is a snapshot of a failed marriage. Full length plays include Something Wicked - Set in the back gardens of four houses on a modern housing estate. The houses are suffering subsidence and occupants not doing much better. Further Education - Set at Essex University in 1985 where a miner who is picketing a local small port is billeted with three female students one of whom is an arch-feminist. A Horse with a Green Tail - About a notorious rape case in the 1930s which led to legalising of abortion in certain cases. The Dying of the Light - A dying man tries to reconcile with this three daughters with whom he stays with in turn which was described - by myself - as ‘King Lear with better gagsÂ’. A couple of years ago, he was commissioned to write short stories for the Interact Reading Service which sends professional actors into hospitals to read to groups of stroke patients. This service employs 100 actors working in London hospitals and is currently being rolled out countrywide. He has written 36 short stories for the service. A selection of these were published a collection Out Loud 21 Twisted Tales. Some of these stories are now available on Shortbread. He has just completed 8 children's books, including the Tich series - TICH THE DRAGONSLAYER and TICH THE OUTLAW and the Detective Dan series including DETECTIVE DAN AND BOZO THE DOG IN THE SMUGGLIERS’ COVE and DETECTIVE DAN AND BOZO THE DOG IN THE STRANGE CASE OF THE GOOSE FEATHERS |
