Life Story: Kate began writing in 2008, and since then has contributed regularly to Shortbread Stories, as blogger and short story writer. One of her stories was published in their first Anthology. Her darkly humourous Sea Penguin blog attracted a steady readership from its beginnings in 2008, and was favourably reviewed in Scottish literary magazine NorthwordsNow in their Spring 2011 edition. Until 2010 it was a running narrative, featuring regular characters living on the outer fringes of the western Scottish seaboard and inspired by relatives and places remembered from holidays spent on the Isle of Skye. Other sources of inspiration included the Edwardian era of Antarctic exploration, Conan Doyle, EW Hornung, prog rock and Monty Python.… Themes include mortality, the perils of technology, the value of friendship and homeliness pitted against the fragility of life, and so forth. Illustrations for these tales were provided by Scottish artist BW Nicol. The running narrative has now been arranged in chronological order into the four e-books listed on Amazon. Further blog posts involving the characters are still produced. Kate is now working on other projects, including a novel, more stories, some poems, and a short self-help book about agoraphobia.
