| Life Story: | I was born in Edinburgh on the 7th of December 1928 and grew up in the city through the 1930Â’s and 40Â’s. I was educated at the same two schools and at the same time as Sir Sean Connery. During WWII I served in the A.R.P and the Home Guard. At 18 years old I was called into the Royal Air Force for my national service and served for two years and 117 days. During this time I served overseas in Palestine, Egypt and Aden as a gunner in the R.A.F regiment. While serving in the R.A.F I met my wife who was in the W.A.A.F. We both liked the service life and I re-enlisted as a 30 year regular, serving in Cyprus, 3 tours of 3 years and Germany 2 tours of 3 years, accompanied by my wife and family. I left the R.A.F aged 45 a SNEO and entered the civil service for the remainder of my working life. I have lived on Bute for nearly 20 years working in Voluntary Appointments to assist my fellow ex -veterans from the armed forces. My wife died two years ago. I took up writing nearly twenty five years ago and have been in the Bute WritersÂ’ group since the day I arrived here. I am a novelist by trade, a short story writer by convenience and a poet by pleasure. |
