Guest Editor Picks

Published 10 months ago

Fiona has paid me an enormous compliment in asking me to be Guest Editor, and I really didn't think I was up to the task, there being so many worthy stories yet to be reviewed! I hope you appreciate the selection. I had specific reasons for each of course, and tried to get a complete cross-section of 'types' of genre, but had to miss out one of my greatest loves, which is Sci - Fi. Mostly it was an attempt at highlighting what grabs the reader; the title being of particular importance, but then how important the first paragraph can be to the flavour of the story, and the ability to hold interest.

I could have reviewed many more; I'm no 'shrinking violet' about my opinions, (as many will know), and at six a month the Guest Editors are never going to get through more than a fraction of what is going on-site every week, let alone every month; - my love of the English language makes me strain at the leash over a lot of them, but then again, each comment is a kind of review anyway, and the more comments you get, I reckon, the more that story has grabbed readers.

I'm still unpublished, and to my shame, (despite a lot of encouragement), I have to admit I'm not trying at all to 'make it'. I keep saying I'll get an anthology of my poems off to a publisher one day, but such an undertaking is hard work to prepare, and I'm kind of addicted to my couple of hours on 'Shortbread' now, which leaves me little time for anything other than my daily interests, like gardening and art. I have to be strict with myself, or nothing would get done, and I need to stay as active as possible, so writing comes last I'm sad to say.

My profile says anything more you need to know about me I think, so enjoy your reading, and don't forget it is important to use the comment spot; the more responses a writer gets, the better the over all sense of its reception!
